The nearest airport is Cairns Airport and is located just over an hour’s drive away, along the coast. To get from the airport to Port Douglas, you can opt to hire a car and drive yourself, or you can use a transfer service.

Whatever you choose to do, it’s best to book in advance, as hire cars and transfers tend to get booked up quickly. The last thing you want is to spend some of your precious time away waiting around at the airport. So take the time to book your transport in advance.

The only downside to Port Douglas is that most of its accommodation is located a short walk away from the main strip. That being said, if you’re not a fan of walking you can always get a taxi. The Beach Shack is another must-visit eatery, a favorite with locals this is one of the top places to eat here.

As for what to see and do while you’re here, there’s just so much on offer that it’s hard to pick. A boat ride and snorkeling experience of the Great Barrier Reef is a must, as is sky railing above the rainforest. Then there’s lots of local shops to explore, the beautiful Four Mile Beach, and, of course, the Wildlife Habitat Port Douglas.
