Whether you go by train, plane or automobile, the European continent is a great place to tour. It’s so easy to get around, and the landscape changes so much. You can see countryside or cities or combine them for a truly personalised trip. Check out these locations that you won’t want to miss.

Austria

First stop is the beautiful Austrian Alps. Stay in a quaint chalet. Go on a white water raft in one of the amazing fast flowing rivers. Or hit the slopes in the wintertime. Make sure you have your european health insurance card though, just in case of any unfortunate snow related accidents. Whatever you do, you’ll want to get out and explore the beautiful and picturesque scenery on offer here.

Switzerland

Then on to Switzerland, very like Austria and Bavaria, in appearance, expect cuckoo clocks and lederhosen here. Visit the mountains and take a tour on the cog railway for the most spectacular views. Don’t forget to visit all the little villages as your travel up the mountains. There are plenty of walking trails between them if you rather do it on foot. Round off your adventures with some delicious fondue and eat alfresco for a really authentic experience.

Germany

Next, on the list should be Germany. You may want to visit Munich for Oktoberfest, but make sure you are ready to swing your stein of beer along in time with the oompah music. Or you could go for Berlin and soak up the techno and modern art culture that the city is famous for.

France

Of course, when visiting France, you must check out Paris. Why not book a bike or walking tour? This will help you get around all the sightseeing hotspots like Notre Dame, the Eiffel Tower and Arch de Triumph. Take a whole day to visit the remarkable Louvre museum and gallery. See the Mona Lisa in the ‘flesh’ and check out their gallery of illuminated religious iconography.  

Italy

There are several places it Italy that you might want to visit. If you are working with limited time or on a limited budget, then go for the top three of Rome, Venice and Pompeii.

Visit Rome, to get the sense of all the hustle and bustle of the Italian capital city. Visit the amphitheatre.  Enjoy the nightlife which starts late by the way, and you must go out for an authentic pizza or pasta meal while you are there.

In Venice makes sure you check out St Mark’s Square and the Doge’s Palace as well as the famous Venetian Glassworks at Murano for souvenirs.

Pompeii is the place to visit if you’re into your history. You can learn so much about the rise and fall of the Roman empire here. You also get to listen to and be moved by the stories of the citizens left immortalised forever in ash on the eruption of Vesuvius.

London

Just a quick hop over the water is the iconic city of London, England. Ride the London Eye for the best view of the city.  Visit Borough Market for some edible treats and take a walk through SoHo in the evening for the risque atmosphere.
