North Korea is located in East Asia and the capital city is Pyongyang. This hidden gem of a country has had much controversy over the years with pain and suffering. The history that belongs to this country is deep rooted. The people of North Korea are resilient and have a wonderful human spirit. Beauty surrounds the countryside with culture and traditions. This is a place that if you are lucky enough to travel to see this treasure of a country, it will leave you with lasting impressions.

The political system in North Korea has had a negative affect on the economy. The communist leadership has left this country struggling just to meet basic needs such as food. Exports from North Korea are very little and because of isolation, international trade has not been on the forefront.

The climate of North Korea is continental with four seasons. North Korea experiences long cold winters with an average temperature of –3 and –13 degrees Celsius. Winter can be harsh and the winds can be cold blowing from Siberia. The summers are hot and humid with the average temperature around 29 degrees Celsius. The monsoon winds blow from the Pacific Ocean bringing moist wet air during the summer months. During the spring and fall the temperatures are more moderate and mild with more comfortable weather.

The best time to travel to North Korea is either in the late spring of May and June or in the autumn of September and October. The weather during these months are the most comfortable plus the traffic of tourists is not as congested.
