One thing that upsets me when it comes to travel is people who say they’d never waste their vacation time visiting a cold country. I mean, I like sun as much as the next person, but snowy travel destinations have so much to offer. The crazy thing is that just like hot countries, most snowy destinations get a lot of sun, they’re just not as warm.
Still not convinced that a snowy destination is worth a visit? Then have a read of these five reasons why holidaying somewhere cold is worth it.
1. You can still get a tan
Believe it or not, going to a cold country on vacation can still leave you with a tan. Just because the weather is cold, that doesn’t mean that you can’t catch some rays while you’re away. Did you know that skiing and snowboarding trips are renowned for tanning? So if it’s your tan that you’re worried about, there’s no need to stress as you can still tan while in a cold country.
2. Lots of activities on offer
Hot holidays offer cycling, watersports and rock climbing, while cold locations offer a range of activities of their own. Think sledging, skiing, and snowboarding, amongst other things. If for example, you opt to visit Swedish Lapland, you can go dog sledding; you can try hover crafting, ice fishing, and lots more. The activities might be different to those on offer in hot countries but they’re just as exciting and enjoyable.
3. The trip will be different to the norm
The great thing about travelling to somewhere that you wouldn’t normally go is that you get a completely different experience. You’ll have the opportunity to see and do things that you normally wouldn’t. Hot locations like Spain might have beautiful beaches and interesting towns, but cold locations also have a lot to offer. Think igloos and ice hotels, reindeer and huskies, and, of course, a range of winter sports to try.
4. Get to experience new cultures
Travel is about experiencing new things, including various cultures and ways of life. Many cold locations, such as Sweden and Finland, are home to a range of tribes that have lived and worked on the land for generations. You can meet families that live in igloos and make their living from husky sledding. You’ll get to experience things that you’ve never seen before.
5. The food is delicious
Last but not least, if you’re a foodie, you have to travel to a snowy destination. The hearty, healthy food on offer is delicious. There are so many different types to choose from, from meaty stews to pasta dishes, you’ll have the chance to try all that the region is famous for. The food on offer in cold countries will differ dramatically to the types of food that you’re used to. This is because food often reflects the way of life.
Hopefully, these five reasons to go on holiday to a snowy destination have convinced you to take a trip to somewhere different this year.
